Change For The Better

In general, I believe that human beings find change difficult. That they prefer the stability of life staying the same. Finding security in the the belief, that their lives will continue to be predictable. Even if at times it can be boring or monotonous. Unless of course they are going through difficult times. But the truth is that life never stays the same. We as individuals, are constantly changing. Not just from day to day. But from moment to moment. Our thoughts and beliefs about the world around us, continually shift and alter. Every interaction we have with another person, or life event experienced, will change us.

So why do people fear change? I believe as individuals we all handle change differently. Depending on our personalities and levels of self confidence. Confident, positive, curious people cope with change well. And often welcome it. People who are by nature timid and lacking in self esteem or of a nervous disposition, will not. It may be that they have come to associate change with great upheaval and negative experiences.

The Path To Happiness

We all want to be happy. But if you were to ask people individually, what brought them happiness. Their answers would all probably differ. As happiness is very much a subjective definition. In as much as, what would be considered very important to one persons sense of well being and inner contentment. Might not be judged as, so important to someone elses. I believe the criteria we use for happiness, comes from our own personal beliefs, priorities and circumstances.

I also believe that some people find happiness elusive. Not necessarily because they have unhappy or difficult lives. But simply because they are easily dissatisfied, becoming bored with what they have; And are constantly looking for fresh stimulation. Or that they believe, other people have it ‘so much better’ then they do. While I do believe that it is important to constantly challenge ourselves.

New Beginnings

Just as the seasons change so must you, as each new year passes, you must shed the old so as to allow new growth to come through. The tree sheds its leaves in winter, so it can be replenished with new growth, the same principle applies to the human world, friendships, jobs, relationships and a multitude of connections will cease or change continually into another form. Life like a stream should never be stagnant, it should be ever flowing and ever evolving into something new and re-vitalising.

A fresh start is a fresh chance to make your world beautiful, you must not see change as a hindrance, you may have lost your job or fell out with a loved one, but that does not mean the end of the world. It means the beginning of a new world, and why should this new world be any worse than what has gone before. Stop being the pessimist, stop expecting things to get worse, you only fulfil your own prophecy with this way of thinking. The world around you will not change for the better until you do.
